Moon Rising

MOON RISING (PUBLISHED IN LUCID STONE SPRING '98 VOL. 13)
(C) BY ELIZABETH SOUTHWOOD 1997

An old-gold moon moves over the far shore.
From it streams a glowing, golden pathway.
It gilds the bay like brooks silver a moor.

Pool-blue stars, the full moon, and Jupiter
create "A Starry Night" above the bay.
An old-gold moon moves over the far shore.

We shouldn't miss the nighttime eastern shore -
the rising of the moon, the path, the way
it gilds the bay, like brooks silver a moor.

We'll picnic under an oak, then explore
amber hills until when, dusk thistle-gray,
an old-gold moon moves over the far shore,

while fog's thick above the sea and waves roar.
When the full moon comes up, we'll see the way
it gilds the bay, like brooks silver a moor.

We'll sit between the bay and the seashore,
breathe sagebrush fragrant as a new sachet.
An old-gold moon moves over the far shore.
It gilds the bay like brooks silver a moor.
