MAY 1, 1998,
Back Yard Tanka

White honey locust
blossoms dangle in clusters
over blue iris:
mother birds sharing food with
squawking, open-mouthed babies.

In the garden now, blooming
blooming white honey locust
blue, purple, red and black iris
red, yellow, pink, white roses
pink escallonia
white holly
hot pink flowering quince
pink Indian hawthorn
tangerine nasturtiums
blue/white phlox
deep pink, white Jupiter's beard
lavender ivy geranium
white potato vine
white madonna lilies
yellow Scotch broom
white Japanese iris,
the wind sighing.
